About Chichester RAJF

Who We Are

The Chichester RAJF organisation is a charitable fundraising arm of Chichester Priory Park Cricket and Hockey Club, which has been based in the park for over 150 years.

Both the organising committee of a dozen or so club members and the army of helpers are volunteers. We employ professional caterers, security staff and stage and sound crew, but all the people you see manning the gate, running the bars, collecting and washing up glasses are volunteers, raising funds and giving our customers a great time.

A Major Undertaking

RAJF has evolved from modest beginnings into a major undertaking with a turnover exceeding £250,000. The costs of erecting and equipping our tents and stage each year are considerable. We comply with the many regulations that apply to public events and work closely with the District Council and Sussex Police, and pay substantial dues to the Performing Rights Society in respect of the music that you enjoy. We try hard to minimise the impact of four days of music on local residents and particularly ask our customers to be quiet and orderly after leaving the event.

Where the Money Goes

Over the past 25 years we’ve raised over £250,000 to help the development of cricket and hockey in and around Chichester. The bulk of this money has gone into helping to fund new facilities such as the Astroturf pitches at Chichester High Schools and Chichester College, the sports hall at Bishop Luffa School and the cricket nets in Priory Park. In addition RAJF helps to fund professional coaches as the club, in the face of reduced sports provision in schools, has taken on responsibility for teaching cricket and hockey skills to hundreds of local youngsters.

Helping Others

Each year RAJF reserves 5% of its profits to help other non-sports related causes in the Chichester area. We focus mainly on charities dealing with issues relating to health and young people. Last year we gave money to Chase, to Chichester Area Mind and the Wessex Cancer Help Centre.
